Twenty-one-year-old Czech tennis player Dominika Šalková will play in the semi-finals for the first time on the elite WTA circuit at the tournament in Jiujiang. She achieved the success of her life after the victory over the domestic Chinese Pai Chuo-süan 6:3, 6:4.

She converted the third match point in a dramatic final game. In addition, Šalková could have played for the premier doubles trophy, but in the semifinals with her Russian teammate Alina Kornějevová, she dropped four match points and was eliminated.

Until this week, the member of Sparta Prague did not do well in the autumn tournaments in Asia and ended up in the qualifiers. Before the tournament in Jiujiang, she had a streak of four singles defeats, but now she has knocked out three opponents in the main competition.

Already the quarterfinals meant a new maximum for her, she reached it on the fifth attempt. Her Saturday opponent in the fight for the final will be Russia’s Anna Blinkova.

Šalková started the match with Paj Čuo-süan with a lost serve, but she immediately repaid the break and in the sixth game the Czech tennis player had another success. She already held serve each time and decided the second set with another break in the fifth game.

She now ranks 151st in the world rankings, on Monday she should improve to at least 133rd position.

Šalková could crown a successful day by advancing to the doubles final, with Kornějevová against the American-Russian couple, Quinn Gleason and Jelena Pridankinová had four match points, but did not use even one.

At the same time, they were leading 9:6 in the super-tiebreak. In the end, the Czech-Russian pair lost 7:6, 5:7 and 12:14.

In the game for the singles title, the only seventeen-year-old Austrian, Lilli Taggerová, remained alongside Šalková. At the premiere in the main competition on the WTA circuit, the junior champion of this year’s Roland Garros defeated Tamara Korpatschová from Germany 6:3, 6:4.

For the final, Tagger will play against the Swiss Viktorija Golubicová.
