This 23 year old defender is competing with 10 other names, namely Carlos Orrantia (Queretaro vs Atlas), Lucas Ribeiro (Mamelodi Sundowns vs Borussia Dortmund), Declan Rice (Arsenal vs Real Madrid), Kevin Rodrigues (Kasimpasa vs Rizespor) and Lamine Yamal (Barcelona vs Espanyol).

For those who don’t know, the Puskas Award is an award from FIFA for the best goal scorer throughout the year. The name Puskas is taken from the legendary Real Madrid and Hungarian national team footballer, Ferenc Puskas.
This award was first launched by FIFA in 2009. A number of the world’s top footballers have won this event, such as Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009, Zlatan Ibrahimovic (2013), James Rodriguez (2014), Olivier Giroud (2017), Mohamed Salah (2018) and Son Heung-min (2020).
However, there are also mediocre footballers who have won this title. These include Mohd Faiz bin Subri (2016, Malaysia), Daniel Zsori (2019, Hungary), Marcin Oleksy (2022, Poland) and Guilherme Madruga (2023, Brazil).
