In NHL hockey, a sharp elbow tackle on Filip Hronko is being resolved. After him, the Czech defender of Vancouver went to the locker room and did not finish the night game on Carolina’s ice.
Russian attacker Andrej Svečnikov was responsible for the intervention. Hronka shot down at the end of the duel. And although one of the main referees was standing nearby, he did not evaluate the situation as a foul.
So Svečnikov escaped without expulsion. And with a good feeling that he helped the team win 4:3 in overtime with two goals and an assist.
However, there is speculation that the 25-year-old star could face additional punishment from the disciplinary committee.
It was an obvious hit to the head and Hronek ended up concussed on the ice. After that, he went to the cabin himself and could not continue on the recommendation of the specialist. The best Czech defender today could have suffered a concussion.
With respect to the non-punishment of Svečnikov directly in the game, social networks began to spread sharp reactions. Hronk’s agent Allan Walsh also whispered.
“Here we go again! National Concussion League. Open season on NHL players’ brains. No foul whistles. Wish the ref was in a position to get a good view of the situation,” Walsh wrote sarcastically on the X social network.
Then he added more. “Parros and his merry band are already quietly spinning out another fine,” he said to the head of the disciplinary commission, George Parros.
Losing Hronko would be a significant weakening for Vancouver. The 28-year-old Czech is the Canucks’ best-rated quarterback this season. So he surpasses even superstar Quinn Hughes.
In the game at Carolina, he scored four blocked shots and three points in more than 24 minutes of play. Otherwise, he has nine assists after 19 games.
He is also important for Vancouver now because the Canadian club is reeling from an extensive mess, which also includes the second center Filip Chytil. Derek Forbort is missing from the defense and Hughes didn’t play last time either, having already missed five duels in total.
The Canucks play their next game on Sunday at 23:00 Czech time on the ice of Tampa. Until then, it will be clear about Hronko and the possible punishment for Svečnikov.
