Due to an infringement of the technical regulations, the McLarens were disqualified from the final classification of the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, won by the Dutchman Max Verstappen. The marshals in charge of checking at the end of the race found excessive wear of the pad, the part attached to the bottom of the cars. The thickness was less than the minimum allowed, which is 9 millimeters. At the finish line the two McLarens had finished second with Lando Norris, first in the World Championship, and fourth with Oscar Piastri.
As a result of the disqualification, both the final ranking of the race and the general ranking of the drivers were quite upset. In second and third position in Las Vegas, behind Verstappen, were the Mercedes of George Russell and that of Kimi Antonelli, ahead of the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc, fourth. In the general classification Norris maintained first position, with 390 points, but his lead was reduced to 24 points over Piastri and now also over Verstappen, who reached second position with 366 points.
There are only two races left until the end of the championship. The next one, scheduled for November 30th in Qatar, however, also includes a sprint race (a mini race held on Saturday): there are therefore 8 more points up for grabs, in addition to the usual 25 points up for grabs for the winner of the race. The last one will take place on December 7th in Abu Dhabi. In practice, a maximum of 58 points still remains to be assigned.
