In a sporting world where we rarely see young people aged 15 or 16 establishing themselves among older athletes, the story of Thomas Allain stands out.
While well-known hockey figures obtained the status of “exceptional player” to break through very early in the Canadian Hockey League, Allain took a different, but equally unique, path.
This Lévis Faucons linebacker was authorized to make the jump to college football at the age of 16 thanks to an exemption linked to his accelerated school career.
Unlike hockey prodigies, Allain did not benefit from a particular sporting status. Rather, it was his academic advancement that propelled him into the college ranks earlier than expected: enrolled in kindergarten a year earlier than normal, he completed high school while most are barely starting their final year.
The RSEQ also confirms that thirteen similar cases have been validated since 2023, a sign that this type of pathway, although rare, is gaining visibility.
Now aged 20, Allain is reaping the fruits of this accelerated progress. Considered one of the best linebackers in his cohort, he was coveted by all Quebec university programs.
All the RSEQ teams wanted to add him to their defensive lineup, a rare unanimity in a highly competitive environment.
