Then, around twenty minutes later, De Smet unleashed a stunning strike from 20 yards out on the left flank after being set up by Kebbal. This time,the crossbar came to samba’s rescue (77th).
Rennes, showing little more attacking threat than in the first half, then displayed clinical efficiency.Substitute Embolo, introduced late in the game, found the back of the net after a well-placed pass from Rongier (0-1, 81st). This proved to be the decisive goal in a match that was particularly harsh on Paris FC.They remain in 11th place before the rest of the weekend’s fixtures, now trailing their evening conquerors by four points. Stade Rennais, meanwhile, moves to within two points of the chasing pack of Lille (4th), Monaco (5th), and Lyon (6th), and can now look forward to the international break with a sense of calm and renewed confidence.
