Lando Norris F1 Champion: Timeline & Chances

One step closer to the F1 title: when can Lando Norris be crowned world champion?

is 23 November 2025 07:11

Lando Norris will get his first chance to secure his first world title next weekend. After his second place in Las Vegas, it could be a prize in Qatar. These are the scenarios.

Lando Norris was unable to achieve a third consecutive victory in the Las Vegas GP, but with his second place he has extended his lead over first pursuer and teammate Oscar Piastri.

Norris now has 408 points in the World Cup standings, Piastri 378 and Verstappen 366. The British World Cup leader therefore has a lead of 30 and 42 points over his closest opponents with two races to go.

Due to Max Verstappen’s victory in Las Vegas, Norris can no longer win the F1 title in the sprint race in Qatar. He can have a maximum lead of 38 points over Piastri after the sprint race, with 50 points remaining.

When can it happen? Lando Norris must finish the GP in Qatar with at least 25 points ahead of both Piastri and Verstappen to secure his first world title.

That means:

  • Plates needs to score 5 points more than Norris over the entire weekend to stay in the title fight for the final in Abu Dhabi
  • Verstappen needs to score 17 more points than Norris over the entire weekend to keep his chances alive

Suppose Norris wins the sprint race in Qatar and Piastri does not collect any points, he will have a lead of 38 points. In that scenario, Piastri would already have to win the Qatar GP and Norris would only need a 4th place to be crowned the 11th British world champion in Formula 1.
