The 21st Tokai District, Hokuriku, and Aichi Tri-Federation Championship Tournament began on November 1st at Paloma Mizuho Baseball Stadium in Nagoya City. Our university’s hardball baseball team appeared in the semifinals on the 2nd, playing against Chubu Gakuin University, the No. 1 ranked team in the Tokai Regional University Baseball Federation, and won 3-2. Our university took a one-point lead in the bottom of the first inning, and although they were caught up 2-2 in the middle, they added one point in the bottom of the eighth inning. On defense, pitcher Yuto Omaki (4th year, School of Sports Science, graduate of Okayama Sanyo High School) showed great pitching and held the opposing batting line to just 2 points, advancing to the finals.
In the final match against Meijo University, our university took a one-point lead in the first inning with a triple from third baseman Renma Kawai (second year, Faculty of Economics, graduate of Kansai High School, Okayama) to the right field, followed by a well-timed double between center fielder Kyoya Nitta (fourth year, Faculty of Sports Science, graduate of Shujitsu High School, Okayama). After that, they repeatedly put out runners with no outs, but didn’t get one more, and the game became a tough game, trailing 1-9 until the 8th inning. In the top of the 9th inning, the team started a counterattack with a double by left fielder Miyoshi Minami Hayaba (4th year, Faculty of Economics and Information Studies/Graduated from Morioka University High School, Iwate). Kawai’s well-timed hit to the right field and Nitta’s second well-timed double to the left-center field gave them 4 points and showed their determination.Although they had 12 hits overall in the game, they lost 5-9, a disappointing result.
