The 184th Mole derby ended goalless at the Allianz Stadium, an intense match but stingy with goals. Juventus and Torino share the stakes with a 0-0 draw that leaves the Bianconeri on 19 points and the Granata on 14, in a match where the goalkeepers shined above all.
In the first half, Spalletti’s team held firm control of the ball – 75% possession – and pushed continuously, but without managing to undermine the solid defense organized by Baroni.
The match
Already in the first minute the Bianconeri made themselves dangerous with an action constructed by Thuram and concluded by Locatelli, deflected for a corner. In the 20th minute, McKennie came close to taking the lead in the small area, but was stopped at the last minute by Ismajli. Torino responded timidly in the 24th minute with Coco, but his central shot was blocked by Di Gregorio. At the half hour mark Simeone finds himself face to face with the Juventus goalkeeper, who anticipates his intervention with perfect timing.
At the end of the first half, Conceicao gives Paleari shivers with a shot deflected for a corner, but the referee doesn’t award the corner kick. Thus we go to half-time at 0-0.
The second half opened with a thrill: Simeone scored in the 46th minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Torino grows and begins to make better use of space, forcing Di Gregorio into overtime on Adams (miracle save in the 62nd minute). On the other hand, Paleari responds with two decisive interventions on David and Yildiz, keeping the goal intact.
The last twenty minutes are of pure intensity, with Juventus pushing until injury time in an attempt to find the winning streak, but Torino’s wall holds up until the end.
A draw that leaves some regrets for the Bianconeri, superior in play but not very concrete in front of goal, and which instead confirms the defensive solidity of Baroni’s Turin. A hard-fought, balanced derby and, once again, without winners or losers under the Mole.
