Italy Wins Davis Cup: Historic Treble vs Spain

Matteo Berrettini (ATP 56) launched the final by winning 6-3 and 6-4 against Pablo Carreno-Busta (ATP 89) in 1h18 of play. Berrettini, 29, scored an 11th consecutive singles victory in the Davis Cup. The Roman was able to count on his serve and his 13 aces.

Flavio Cobolli (ATP 22) scored the winning point. He overturned Jaume Munar (ATP 36) in three sets 1-6, 7-6 (7/5) and 7-5 after a great battle of 2 hours and 56 minutes. Munar, propelled to Spanish N.1 after the packages of Carlos Alcarazthe world No.1, and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (ATP 14), superbly approached his meeting against Cobolli and won the first set (1-6) after 34 minutes. The 28-year-old Majorcan saw his good momentum interrupted (entry break in the 2nd set) by the discomfort of a spectator which caused the match to be interrupted for 9 minutes. At the restart, Cobolli counter-broken (1-1) and entered the match. The Italian equalized at one set after a tie-break which he led from start to finish: 7-6 (7/5). The third round also remained undecided. The Florentin made the difference by signing the only break allowing him to lead 6-5 serves to follow.

Never since the Open era (1973) has a nation managed to lift the famous Silver Saladier after three consecutive editions. The Italians won a 4th victory after 1976, 2023 and 2024 after ten finals. They had failed in 1960, 1961, 1977, 1979, 1980 and 1998. Spain was playing its 11th final and remains at 6 successes (2000, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2019).
