The HYLO Open 2025 wrapped up with a diverse display of talent,featuring five champions from four different nations. Despite the German Badminton Association (DBV) athletes bowing out by the quarterfinals, head national coach Hannes Käsbauer expressed satisfaction with the teamS performance.
“It was a good week for us,” Käsbauer stated, highlighting the significance of reaching the quarterfinals at this level. He specifically praised Marvin Seidel and Thuc nguyen for their “two top victories,” and welcomed the return of Jones Jansen and Bjarne Geiss to the court, noting they “gained self-confidence.”
Seidel and Nguyen’s run ended in the quarterfinals against the eventual runners-up, Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue of France. Simultaneously occurring, Geiss and Jansen were eliminated in the round of 16 by the formidable Indonesian duo, world number eight fajar Alfian and Muhammad fikri. Käsbauer concluded, “The achievements and the developments behind them fit. We will use that for the upcoming tasks.”
Saarland Prime minister Lauds HYLO Open
Anke Rehlinger, Prime Minister of Saarland, lauded the HYLO Open as “one of the most significant badminton tournaments in Europe.” She emphasized its role in showcasing the “passion” of the Saarland region and the broader importance of sports in culture and society.
on the court, the coveted titles were claimed by athletes from Taiwan, Denmark, Indonesia, and France. In women’s doubles, Margot Lambert and Camille Pognante of France secured the championship with a decisive victory over Hsu Yin-Hui and Lin Jhih yun from Taiwan (21-16, 21-10). The men’s doubles title went to Taiwan’s Olympic champion Wang Chi-Lin and his new partner Chiu Hsiang Chieh, who defeated Indonesia’s Sabar Gutama and Moh Isfahani (21-19, 21-18).
Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt successfully defended her women’s singles title, defeating Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani in a hard-fought three-setter (21-11, 7-21, 21-12). This marked the first title defense in Saarbrücken as 2014. The Indonesian contingent had reason to cheer, however, as Jonatan Christie clinched the men’s singles final, overcoming Denmark’s surprise finalist Magnus Johannesen in straight games (21-13, 21-14).
HYLO Open Confirmed as Super 500 Event
The sole all-European final saw Danish pair Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje emerge victorious over france’s Gicquel/Delrue (23-21, 21-15). this triumph marked the duo’s third world Tour title of the year and served as sweet revenge for their European Championship final loss in the same venue a year and a half prior.
The HYLO Open, a staple on the BWF World Tour, is set to return to the Saarlandhalle from october 27th to november 1st, 2026, maintaining its status as a Super 500 tournament.
