Fluminense Investigation Request: Official Update

Fluminense Clears the Air: Examination Request Over Corporate Card Allegations archived

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Fluminense Football club has issued an official statement addressing a recently filed investigation request concerning alleged misuse of the club’s corporate credit cards. The request, initiated by former presidential pre-candidate Luis Monteagudo, has been officially archived by the Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro, clearing the club of wrongdoing.

The Public Ministry, through Prosecutor Alexandre Themístocles de Vasconcelos, head of the 2nd specialized Criminal Investigation Prosecutor’s Office of the Rio de janeiro Center, found the accusations to be unsubstantiated. In their decision, the prosecutor noted that the initial report lacked a substantial narrative and did not clearly attribute any criminal offense to the individuals accused.

“thus, considering that the file was devoid of the minimum elements needed to initiate an investigation, I decided to archive this piece of data, in accordance with article 28 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.”

The club emphasized that this situation highlights the irresponsible spread of untruths during the recent election campaign, which can negatively impact the institution’s reputation and internal habitat. Fluminense, despite not being formally notified by the Public Ministry, proactively submitted extensive documentation to demonstrate the proper use of the corporate cards.

The prosecutor’s statement also served as a reminder that state criminal prosecution activity cannot become the stage for electoral disputes between sports associations. This ruling effectively closes the chapter on this particular accusation, allowing Fluminense to focus on its sporting objectives.
