“The team I manage, myself included, and these players need to learn to be as big as Vasco. We can’t feed the fans with ‘go, no go’. We can’t do that. We have to be more forceful. Vasco will always be giant, but the team has to learn to be big”, added Diniz.
The coach also commented on the climate in the locker room and the relationship with the players during this period of negative results.
– Regarding other things in the locker room, you know it’s nonsense. You know about my relationship. Who will crack the locker room? Léo Jardim, Rayan, Vegetti, Coutinho? Coutinho didn’t play. This is the season in which he makes the most appearances. There’s a lot of good stuff. What’s bad? This five-game cut is very heavy, very bad. And it’s sad, very bad. Thank you for the question and it was very good.
The sequence is Vasco’s worst in the current edition of the tournament. Fernando Diniz’s team lost the last games to São Paulo, Botafogo, Juventude, Grêmio and, now, Bahia. With the result, the team remains parked at 42 points and could see the distance to the relegation zone decrease to three points at the end of the 35th round.
– Of course you see (fight against relegation). And you really have to see it. We don’t have scores yet. There are three games left and we need to score. And that’s something we should have. One of the teams’ main mistakes is that, when the championship presented itself to us, we had a repertoire, conditions, playing football in the way that we could aspire to something better, we rejected it. We didn’t hug. The crowd encouraging and supporting. If you don’t go, you stay. Either we go up or down, if you don’t go, you don’t produce and you don’t win the game. We finished seventh in the table. We could have gone further, we could be talking about something else today, but this is the reality. We need to score, and relegation, of course, is an issue. There are three games left to finish the championship, and we need to win the game. The fans are sure to count, and we have to win the game. That’s what we have to do.
The team will have two home matches in the next two rounds to try to change the crisis scenario. Vasco hosts Internacional, next Friday, and Internacional, on December 2nd. Vasco’s participation in the current edition of the Brazilian Championship ends with the duel against Atlético-MG, on the 7th, at Arena MRV.
