In a frustrating turn of events, Sevilla suffered a tough loss at the hands of Espanyol.Despite creating numerous scoring opportunities, the team struggled with efficiency adn costly defensive errors that ultimately led to two crucial goals, impacting the final score.Following the match at the RCDE Stadium, which concluded the 13th league fixture, Matias Almeyda shared his insights on the game’s proceedings.
Almeyda reflected on the first half, stating, “The first half was good, with clear actions and good control. We couldn’t open the scoring. Soccer is about scoring goals.” He continued,”And in the second half,as soon as it started,in an action that could have been avoided, they scored the first goal and another game began.Likewise, the team responded. We made a mistake again and the second goal comes. Later we were able to make one, but it was too late.” He emphasized the team’s performance, noting, “Today I saw the team play one of the best games, discounting the result, obviously. The reality is that so many goal actions have to be defined. We lacked clarity in many of them and, in others, we found a great goalkeeper.”
When questioned about the two Sevilla players, Adnan Januzaj and Rubén Vargas, who were forced off the field due to injury, the coach explained, “They both had muscle discomfort. Surely, starting tomorrow (this Tuesday) when the studies are done, we will know the degree of severity they have.”
Speaking further to the club’s official media from the mixed zone, Almeyda reiterated his assessment of the clash against Espanyol. “The analysis that I make like this, quickly, is that there was a good performance with some errors, especially in their goals. Later, we lacked a little bit, on some occasions, of more clarity for the definition. Also, keep in mind that their goalkeeper took amazing balls. Football is defined by small details, as we have seen, but I get many positive things. Of the games we have played, this has been one of the best, discounting the result, which no one likes.”
The conversation then shifted to the upcoming derby against Betis, scheduled for next Sunday at 4:15 p.m. at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Almeyda expressed his anticipation for this important fixture, stating, “They are unique, different games. It is the football festival for any club, play a derby. We hope to be at that level and be able to give the fans and us joy.” This will mark almeyda’s first derby as Sevilla’s coach.
