In an interview with FIFA, Ridho said that he received news that he had been nominated for the 2025 Puskas Award from his family, not his agent or club Persija Jakarta.
“Honestly at first [menerima kabar] it’s dawn. I woke up for worship, and then a message was sent from my parents. There was news about me being a Puskas nominee. “I thought at first it was a hoax or whatever,” said Rizky Ridho.
After receiving the news, Ridho went back to sleep. When he woke up, this 24 year old player was surprised that his goal had gone global.
“It turned out to be true. The news was everywhere. I was shocked and grateful. I didn’t expect my goal [dampaknya] going this far [mendunia],” said Ridho.
Ridho could only be grateful after his goal to compete with Declan Rice and Lamine Yamal in the 2025 Puskas Award. He thanked his family, colleagues and coaches who hoped that Ridho would win the 2025 Puskas Award.
He then talked about the process of his goal against Arema from a distance. According to Ridho, the goal was created because he lacked confidence in continuing to attack.
“Actually I wanted to dribble further, but I lacked confidence. So when I saw the goalkeeper coming forward, I positioned my body so that my shot could be right.”
“I didn’t know whether it was a goal or not until my friends on the bench shouted,” said Ridho.
