Bundesliga: Altach vs WAC – Atalan Debut Highlights

A brace from Patrick Greil (30th, 70th) and a penalty from Anteo Fetahu (84th) gave the home team their first win since September 13th. Marco Sulzner scored the guests’ consolation goal (94th) in stoppage time. While the Altach team was able to celebrate their first success after seven rounds without a win and initially climbed to eighth place, the WAC fell back to sixth place and could even slip out of the championship group on Sunday.

Atalan, who replaced short-term coach Peter Pacult during the international break, saw his team dominate the game. The Altach defense, which was organized by 20-year-old Filip Milojevic in place of the ill Benedikt Zech, only allowed a few chances.

Altach celebrates confident success

SCR Altach defeated Wolfsberg at home 3-1. WAC coach Ismail Atalan’s debut failed, the reigning cup winner extended his negative streak.

After half an hour, the SCR took the lead with a standard. Greil curled a free kick from 20 meters past the two-man wall into the near corner, surprising goalkeeper Nicolas Polster.

Three minutes later, Altach missed a huge chance to make it 2-0. Referee Sebastian Gishamer decided to give advantage after a foul, but Mike Bähre failed to reach the cross pass in front of the empty goal (33′).

Greil schnürt Doppelpack

After the break, the WAC became dangerous through Erik Kojzek (53) and Dejan Zukic (56′), but Altach struck again. After a counterattack, Marlon Mustapha finished, the ball rolled towards the goal and was maneuvered over the line by Greil (70th).

After a handball from Dominik Baumgartner, Gishamer decided on a penalty after a VAR check, which Fetahu safely converted (84′). With a shot from 20 meters, Sulzner only managed to correct the result. After seven games without a win, Altach got three points again and moved up to eighth place.

Voices about the game:

Fabio Ingolitsch (Altach coach): “I would like to give a very big compliment. If you defend so stably and compactly without defense chief Benni Zech, that speaks for a unified team performance. It wasn’t always the best football, we certainly played better this year. But we did the right things to win. The victory was well deserved.”

Ismail Atalan (WAC coach): “We conceded the goals today at extremely unfortunate times. In a difficult situation where we started the game quite well, we got the 1-0, fell into a small hole. We came out of half-time, had a good phase again, got the 2-0 again. We then completely slacked off mentally. That’s what I blame the team for. Mistakes always happen in the game, after conceding a goal like that you have to stay mentally strong, we didn’t have that well done.”
