Beñat Apezetxea (Goizueta, 2005) and Oier Elorz (Zaratamo, 2007) once again showed yesterday at the Astelena that they form a couple of many carats. They didn’t need … nor be close to his best version to carry out his match against Oier Ibarluzea (Urretxu, 2006) and Asier Balerdi (Aiegi, 2004) by 22-8 in an Astelena that had more than two hundred fans and the presence of Libe Garate, commercial manager of Bankoa in Eibar, to witness a new day of this Bankoa ABANCA-DV Tournament.
It was a game without rhythm, with some tough goals, but in which mistakes ruled. Apezetxea, surely the most outstanding of the match, did damage with his serve and Elorz with his shots thanks to that privileged left foot that already has him on Baiko’s radar. Ibarluzea and Balerdi, a rocky couple that is difficult to break, were not so difficult this time and succumbed largely as a result of their mistakes.

The match remained tied until 6-6. Two low balls from Balerdi, first and Ibarluzea, later, together with a hook and a goal from Apezetxea’s serve, led to the takeoff (10-6) which was followed by a ball from the Urretxu forward and two new goals from Goizueta (13-6).
From then on there was no longer a match and Apezetxea and Elorz imposed their law without further complications, demonstrating their love affair with the Bankoa ABANCA-DV Tournament that they both won last year in different categories.
Semifinalists in promises
The afternoon at the Astelena began with Mikel Egurrola (Etxebarria, 2007) and Aratz Ormaetxea (Bergara, 2007) achieving the first ticket to the semifinals in the promising category after beating Unax Ramirez (Sopela, 2007) and Aitor Etxeberria (Oiartzun, 2008) by 20-22 in an even duel and demanding in which Ormaetxea’s right hand shined, very powerful.
The winners started the match very well, with a cheeky Egurrola and that right hand from Ormaetxea that gave Ramirez little chance of entering the game (4-10).

However, the Sopela forward did damage with the serve thanks to his power, achieving a 7-0 run that put them ahead (11-10).
From then on, the game was managed with short odds, with Ormaetxea dominating from behind, which allowed Egurrola to get back into the game, while Etxeberria, under pressure, exhibited good defense well accompanied by Ramirez, who perhaps should have tried to take on a little more prominence.
Iker Izagirre (Elgoibar, 2007) and Eñaut Moto (Legutio, 2008) also earned their ticket to the semifinals in the same category after a very tough match in which they beat Markel Salaberria (Goizueta, 2008) and Hugo Figueroa (Bearin, 2007) by 22-19.

Izagirre and Moto added more in the first part of the duel, with the elgoibartarra doing damage in the finish. In front, Salaberria and Figueroa were far from their best version, which put a 18-10 score on the scoreboard that seemed final.
However, with everything lost, Salaberria and Figueroa let go. The one from Bearin began to command from behind, which allowed Salaberria to come into play more and place a disturbing 20-17 on the scoreboard. At that moment, a hook from Salaberria that seemed definitive hit the plate, which was a relief for Izagirre and Moto who, although in difficulties, were able to achieve victory.
The Bankoa ABANCA-DV Tournament will continue on Tuesday, December 2 at the Madalensoro fronton in Oiartzun with two matches of the women’s four and a half and another duel in the senior category with defender Unax Landa as an attraction.
