Beka Beka: First Belgian Goal After Suicide Threat

The rebirth of Alexis Beka Beka took on the most beautiful form this weekend. On October 29, the 24-year-old midfielder returned to professional action with La Louvière, in the Belgian first division, two years after having threatened to end his life while at the time wearing the colors of OGC Nice.

Saturday evening in Antwerp, nine minutes after coming on, he scored his first professional goal with his new club, beaten (1-3) during the 14th day of the Jupiler Pro League. If his goal at the end of the match did not allow his team to win, it is the magnificent symbol of his rebirth, his long reconstruction and above all his determination.

First goal in three years

“When he scored, the whole bench was happy,” rejoiced his coach Frédéric Taquin on DAZN.

On the morning of September 29, 2023, suspended 100 m above the void, he threatened to commit suicide on the Magnan viaduct, not far from Nice, before giving up following long discussions with emergency services and a psychologist. Almost a year after making an attempt on his life, Beka Beka terminated his contract with the Aiglons.

Away from the field for very long months, the former Nice player had not found the net in a professional match since a goal against Maccabi Tel Aviv on August 25, 2022 in a Europa Conference League qualifying match. In National 3, he scored against Ajaccio last May with the Caen reserve, his training club where he returned before joining the club promoted in Belgium.
