Thanks to the generosity of the Capitale-Nationale and Chaudière-Appalaches community, $160,000 was awarded to 36 student-athletes during a scholarship ceremony held at the Intact Assurance Ice Center. Basketball Québec is proud to highlight the presence among the recipients of three basketball players from St‑Augustin‑de‑Desmaures and members of our Équipes Québec: Laura Bilodeau, Sofia Boumansour and Frédérique Tremblay.
This support is made possible by the combination of profits from the second edition of the festive dinner At the table for athletes and three individual donations from the region. Beyond financial aid, scholarship recipients become part of the Aléo Foundation family and have access to support services during their sporting and academic careers and after their careers.
Portrait of the winners:
- Laura Bilodeau: Aged 17 and originally from St‑Augustin‑de‑Desmaures, Laura studies human sciences at the Cégep de Sainte‑Foy. Champion at the Girls Under Armor Association U16 tournament in Indiana in the summer of 2025, she perpetuates a true family basketball tradition, her father Mathieu having played for the Cégep de Sainte‑Foy and the Rouge et Or. Winner of a first Aléo Foundation scholarship of $3,000 over 3 years, Laura continues her progress seriously, combining sporting ambition and academic success.
- Sofia Boumansour: At 15, Sofia shines in the sports-studies basketball program at Saint-François Séminaire, where she is in Secondary 4. RSEQ provincial champion with the Blizzard in March 2025, she was named Defensive Athlete of Excellence in the RSEQ Female Cadet D1 League and received the Academic Student-Athlete of Excellence award on her team. Holder of a first Aléo Foundation scholarship of $2,000, Sofia harbors the dream of pursuing medical studies while climbing the basketball ladder.
- Frédérique Tremblay: Frédérique, 18, studies human sciences at Cégep de Sainte‑Foy and has completed three seasons with the Juvenile Excellence team at Séminaire Saint‑François (outside RSEQ). Highlight of her career: the title of 17U national champion with Team Quebec in 2023. Rewarded with the Academic Success prize in her final year at SSF, she received a first Aléo Foundation scholarship of $3,000 over 3 years which supports her dual objective of academic and sporting excellence.
Basketball Québec warmly congratulates Laura, Sofia and Frédérique, as well as all the recipients. By joining forces with the efforts of the Aléo Foundation, Basketball Québec reaffirms the importance of a path that combines performance, academic success and the well-being of young athletes.
