Our “three musketeers” Maximilian Wellinger, Marcel and Tobias Boehm set out to complete the next challenge: the Austrian student championships in Egg. After the long journey to Vorarlberg had been overcome well, we started the tournament weekend on Saturday fully motivated.
Max had to contend with two difficult draws: In the U13 singles he had to play against the eventual winner of the competition – and in the U13 HD he and his partner Santiago Alves (BC Montfort Feldkirch) were spared nothing in the quarter-final game against the first seeds. Both games clearly went to the opponents. He and his partner Xenia Hann (BC Bregenz) also had little luck in the U13 MD and had to admit defeat despite a strong second set.
Also Marcel competed in the U13 competitions. In the mixed doubles, he and his partner Wei-Chien Chan (Europajugend Gleisdorf) were over after the first game. Things looked much better in doubles – Marcel and his partner Alexander Ertl (UBC Neuhofen) moved into the semi-finals after an extremely exciting 3-set game. However, the double pairing that had already been Max’s downfall the day before was waiting there. Here too we came up short again – but were able to celebrate third place. In the singles, Marcel confidently made it to the quarter-finals, where he won against the second seed in an exciting game. However, it was over in the semi-finals the next day – we would like to congratulate you on the two bronze medals!
The first day of the tournament started in the age group above (U15). Tobias and his partner Anna-Luise Rinderer (BC Montfort Feldkirch) with a clear defeat against the Neuhofner mixed doubles. In the singles he made things exciting again, but had to admit defeat after three nerve-wracking sets. Unfortunately, the doubles tournament also ended for him and his partner Paul Kalchgruber (UBC Neuhofen) on Saturday after the first round.
Despite difficult games and a few defeats, we can be proud of our participation in a nationwide tournament, from which we came home with two bronze medals. In exciting games, our young talents showed that we are on the right track. Keep it up!
