Andrea Medina received a knee to the head in the Champions League game. Now her club is announcing the diagnosis.

As the Spanish club announced a day after the 2-1 defeat, Medina suffered a traumatic brain injury and a concussion. In the second half, she was hit in the head by an opponent’s knee and remained motionless on the ground.

After initial treatment in the field, Medina was taken away on a stretcher. “After her condition stabilized, she was taken to hospital where various additional examinations were carried out, the results of which were within normal limits,” Atlético said. “After a period of observation, the player was discharged from hospital and will now follow the club’s medical department’s concussion protocol.”
