Granollers, Spain – The future of Spanish badminton is looking bright, as five promising young athletes from albatros Cuenca Badminton recently competed in the prestigious Spanish U17 Championship held in Granollers, Barcelona, from November 7-9, 2025. These dedicated players, who have honed their skills throughout a demanding season, demonstrated remarkable performance across singles and doubles disciplines, solidifying their status as rising stars.

The contingent from Cuenca included Jimena Alonso, Kristina Stanislavova, Marcos Romero, Samuel Rodríguez, and Mateo Higueras. Their qualification for the individual categories was a testament to their consistent national rankings and unwavering commitment throughout the year. The club also fielded strong partnerships in Mixed Doubles with Jimena Alonso and Mateo Higueras, and in Men’s Doubles with Marcos Romero and samuel Rodríguez.

In the Women’s Singles, Jimena Alonso, ranked 29th nationally, faced a tough opening-round challenge against the 10th seed, Sulimar Cabrera. Despite a valiant effort, Alonso ultimately fell in a hard-fought three-set match, with scores of 21-18, 10-21, and 14-21. Teammate Kristina Stanislavova advanced past her first-round opponent, Leyre Simón, winning decisively with scores of 21-15 and 21-11. However, her tournament run concluded in the second round against Hanting Jiang, losing 17-21 and 14-21.

The Men’s Singles competition saw Samuel Rodríguez make an remarkable run to the round of 16. He secured a solid victory over Mark Kravchyshyn (21-13, 21-15) before concluding his singles campaign in ninth place after a challenging match against Miao Ruifeng (10-21, 13-21).
