Abidjan Gears Up to Host the 14th African Archery Championship in 2025

Get ready, archery fans! the vibrant city of Abidjan, Ivory Coast, is set to become the epicenter of African archery from November 19 to 23, 2025. The Treichville Sports Park will host the 14th edition of the African Championship, drawing the continent’s top archers for what promises to be a thrilling display of skill and precision.

Ivory Coast is pulling out all the stops for this major sporting event. The Ivorian Archery Federation (FITA) officially announced the championship at a press conference held on November 9, 2025, at the Ibis Plateau hotel. FITA President Moïse Mi-Carême Essis, alongside Championship Executive Director Dconnexion Seydou and Ministry of Sports representative Yamsa Aziz Koné, laid out the aspiring plans and logistical preparations for this continental showdown.

President Essis expressed his pride in hosting such a meaningful event: It is indeed an honor for Côte d’Ivoire to host a continental event of this scale. he further elaborated on the nation’s dedication to elevating its status in the archery world, stating, For several years, we have been working seriously and methodically to raise our contry among the great African archery nations. Our regularity in international competitions weighed in the choice of the host country.

The consistent growth of Ivorian archery has been undeniable. President Essis highlighted the federation’s impressive track record: Since I have been at the head of FITA, we have participated in all the african championships (in Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, South Africa, Namibia) and we have won the continental title at least five times. These stellar performances, coupled with the federation’s organizational prowess, were key factors in the African Archery Confederation (World Archery Africa) selecting Ivory Coast to host the 14th edition.

This upcoming championship is poised to be a record-breaker, with an expected turnout of 19 countries and approximately 200 athletes representing all four corners of the continent – North, West, Central, and east Africa. Nations already confirmed include powerhouses like Morocco,Egypt,Tunisia,and Algeria,alongside strong contenders from Benin,Senegal,Uganda,South Africa,Guinea,Cameroon,and Somalia,in addition to the host nation,Ivory Coast. With more delegations anticipated, this edition is shaping up to be a landmark event for African archery.

For five days,Abidjan will be the focal point of African sports. FITA aims to make this championship a benchmark for organization and sportsmanship, emphasizing competition, youth growth, and continental unity.
