Wolfsburg 4-0 PSG: Champions League Defeat for Parisiennes

The game started badly and ended no better. The Paris Saint-Germain players lost heavily on Wednesday evening on the Wolfsburg pitch (4-0) for the first day of the group stage of the Champions League.

At home, the Germans from Wolfsburg opened the scoring in the 7th minute. On the first corner of the match taken by Janou Levels, attacker Alexandra Popp headed back and Parisian central defender Jackie Groenen, under pressure from Caitlin Dijkstra, deflected into her own goal. Just before the break, the Louves doubled the lead through Ella Peddemors. At the end of the match, Wolfsburg added to the score for the Parisiennes with Popp (90th) and Janina Minge (90th + 5 on penalty).

A complicated schedule

Offensively, PSG weakened this summer with the departures of Grace Geyoro to the London Lionesses and Marie-Antoinette Katoto to Lyon. The two French internationals were not replaced and Merveille Kanjinga missed several opportunities on Wednesday in Wolfsburg. Eliminated in the qualifying round by Juventus Turin last season, the Parisiennes missed their reunion with the Champions League.

This season, the first phase of the C1 takes place in a single group of 18 teams, each team playing six matches against six different opponents. The program for Paulo César’s players, who arrived this summer on the bench after a complicated 2024/25 season, promises to be very tough: Real Madrid at Poissy in eight days (October 16), then a trip to Manchester to face United on November 12, before hosting Bayern at the Parc on November 20.
