Enthusiastic about switching

“I am very enthusiastic about the opportunity I get at one of the best teams in the world,” says Doull on the team site. “I am already full of motivation when I think of next season. I am looking forward to assisting Matthew Brennan in the flat sprints and playing a role in his lead-outs and the classics. In addition, I also want to discover how much growth margin I still have.”

Although Doull is now 32 years old, he still sees enough room to improve himself. “I keep getting stronger physically, even though I have been active in the WorldTour for nine years. Last season was my strongest season so far. I expect that I can take another step with this team.”

Experience in classics and big rounds

Doull already rode five large rounds, including the Tour de France once. His greatest quality is in the classics. In 2019 he became second in Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne behind Bob Jungels. This season he recorded his best classic results so far: 28th in Gent-Wevelgem and 30th in the Tour of Flanders. Later he also drove out the Giro d’Italia, in the service of Richard Carapaz, who finished third in the final classification.

“Owain makes us stronger”

Team leader Grischa Niermann is happy with the arrival of the Brit. “With his experience at the highest level, he will make our team absolutely stronger. Owain has proven last year that he can last for a long time in the spring classics. We expect that he also physically steps with us. But his most important role will be his young talents, such as Brennan, to familiarize them with classics and sprints.”
