University Badminton and Fronton Teams Shine,Setting Sights on Central American and caribbean Games Qualifiers

After a stellar performance that saw them clinch multiple medals, these dedicated athletes are already setting their sights on the next major challenge: the qualifier for the Central American and Caribbean Games later this year.
The badminton squad, a powerhouse of talent, demonstrated their dominance by securing medals across various disciplines, including singles, mixed doubles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and the mixed team event. This impressive haul is a testament to the relentless dedication of athletes like Romina Fregoso,Vanessa Villalobos,Joceline López,Salma Ramírez,Néstor González,Juan Pablo Montoya,Juan Carlos Torres,Isaac Pérez,Arturo Ángeles,and José Antonio Jaramillo. Their hard work is paying off, mirroring the dedication seen in collegiate sports programs across the United States, where athletes often juggle demanding academic schedules with rigorous training.
“On this occasion,several competitors participated that we are going to face at the end of the year,” noted one of the team’s coaches,highlighting the strategic importance of this recent competition. If they qualified, they would also get the place for the Pan American team competition, that would be the goal.
This forward-thinking approach is crucial, much like how American Olympic hopefuls meticulously plan their competition schedules to peak at the right moments. The coach further emphasized the team’s spirit, stating, I thank the boys and girls who are the ones who strive every day to be able to reach those achievement logos.

Evaristo Yair Muñoz Bañuelos from the University Center of Health Sciences (CUCS) earned a silver medal in the men’s frontball modality. His performance in a sport that, while perhaps less mainstream in the U.S. than tennis or basketball, demands incredible agility and precision, is a reminder of the diverse athletic talents emerging from collegiate systems.
Daniela Mariana garcía Sánchez, representing the University Center of the South (CUSur), secured a silver medal in the women’s individual pre-Olympic modality. Her achievement in a demanding individual event highlights the mental fortitude required at this level, a quality admired in American athletes from gymnasts to track stars.
Adding to the medal count, Octavio Alexander Daza Villa from the University Center of Economic-Administrative Sciences (CUCEA) clinched a bronze medal in the men’s individual pre-Olympic modality. He also partnered with Daniela Mariana García Sánchez to secure a bronze in the mixed pre-olympic modality.
