Erik ten Hag has been without a club since his dismissal from Bayer Leverkusen. De Tukker therefore had enough time to give his opinion about Ajax, which has been in disastrous shape in recent weeks and has to visit Chelsea FC on Wednesday evening.
‘Ajax is not Champions League-proof, but that can change again’
“Now Chelsea also has a good team, while Ajax is not Champions League-proof,” Ten Hag immediately cracks a tough nut, in De Volkskrant. “But that can change in the long run, with sound and smart policy. It will always involve trial and error.”
In 2019, Ajax won in the CL against Real Madrid, Juventus, Tottenham Hotspur, Valencia and Lille OSC under Ten Hag. In London they drew 4-4 and could/should have even won. “Maybe I’m romanticizing, but I had the idea that we beat Chelsea off the mat. It became 4-4 from 2-4, because we were down to nine men. The entourage in the Stamford Bridge stadium is great anyway. As a coach of Manchester United, I have also experienced memorable matches there.”
The kick-off is Wednesday evening at 9:00 PM.
