RSC Anderlecht lost against Charleroi on Friday evening with the smallest difference: 1-0. In a match with few chances, a mistake by goalkeeper Colin Coosemans decided the game.
The experienced goalkeeper missed a corner in the final phase, allowing Cheick Keita to easily score. It was already the third defeat of the season for the Purple & White, and that hit the Brussels dressing room hard.
After the match, Coosemans took responsibility without delay. “I have to take responsibility: I cost the team a point tonight,” the goalkeeper said honestly, as quoted by RTBF.
“I shouldn’t have come out. If I come out of my goal, I just have to have that ball.” Despite the disappointment, Coosemans was mature and open about his mistake. “We didn’t deserve to win, but I should have judged that phase better.”
The defeat fits in with a poor period for Anderlecht, which also had difficulty convincing against Sint-Truiden last week (2-2). “We continued that bad form,” Coosemans admitted. “It went a little better after the break, but not enough. That lack of consistency is difficult to explain.” A new chance for rehabilitation awaits on Tuesday, when Anderlecht takes on Ninove in the Belgian Cup. “Every match is an opportunity to get back on track,” the goalkeeper concluded.
In episode 14 of the second season of Tijd voor Voetbal, the canceled match between Standard and Royal Antwerp FC, the draw between RSC Anderlecht and KRC Genk and an excellent Nathan De Cat are discussed. That and much more in Time for Football.
