The Sejong City Sports Association for the Disabled will dispatch a team representing Sejong City to the 45th National Sports Festival for the Disabled, which will be held in Busan for six days from October 31 to November 5. This competition will be held under the theme of ‘Korea becoming one in the global hub city of Busan’, and a total of 10,000 people, including 6,500 athletes and 3,500 executives and officials from 17 cities and provinces across the country, will participate.
The Sejong City team consists of a total of 152 people, including 99 players and coaches and 53 executives and guardians. They will participate in 15 sports, including gateball, golf, billiards, badminton, track and field, swimming, bowling, and table tennis, and demonstrate the skills they have honed throughout the year. In particular, billiards and badminton, which achieved good results in the previous competition, are considered major fields where medals are expected this time as well.
The Sejong City Disabled Sports Association is determined to raise the status of Sejong City with the goal of winning a total of 42 medals, including 18 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 17 bronze medals. Since last summer, the athletes have been strengthening their basic physical strength and improving their sense of practical skills through technical training at each event’s training center.
Sejong Mayor Choi Min-ho (Chairman of the Sejong City Sports Association for the Disabled) encouraged, “I hope that each player will participate in the game with pride in representing Sejong City,” and added, “I hope that the sweat and effort made so far will bear fruit.” He continued, “All citizens are supporting the team’s challenge and passion.”
A Sejong City official emphasized, “This competition goes beyond a simple competition for grades, and is an opportunity to inform the nation of the efforts and emotions of athletes who overcame disabilities.” He added, “It will be a stage that shows the growth and potential of Sejong City’s sports for the disabled.”
Through this competition, the Sejong City team is expected to go beyond simply winning medals and promote to the nation the spirit of sports where disabled and non-disabled people work together. It is expected that the team’s good performance will be a new turning point in the development of sports for the disabled in Sejong City.
