PSSI Condemns Persikad vs PSPS Match Incident

PSSI Condemns “Unsportsmanlike” Foul After Player Suffers Seizure

Jakarta, Indonesia – The Indonesian football Association (PSSI) has issued a strong statement of disappointment and regret following a disturbing incident during a recent match between Persikad Depok and PSPS pekanbaru. The game, part of the Western Group of the Championship, took a grim turn when Persikad Depok’s winger, Bil Asqan, suffered a seizure after a foul by PSPS Pekanbaru midfielder Jeferson.

The incident, which occurred at the Pakansari Stadium in Cibinong on Saturday, October 4th, saw Asqan fall to the ground after a forceful elbow to the chin from Jeferson. Medical personnel were instantly on hand to attend to the stricken player, who was subsequently taken away by ambulance.

PSSI Secretary General Yunus Nusi expressed the organization’s dismay. “PSSI is very sorry for the incident that occurred in the match and we hope things like this will not be repeated,” nusi stated in an audio release on Sunday, October 5th, 2025.

Nusi went on to emphasize the importance of sportsmanship on the field, drawing parallels to the ethos of American sports. “We want to remind all players to act with sportsmanship while competing. Never think about or act to injure an opponent. It’s not good at all. Sportsmanship is key in playing as it’s possible that one day, you who intend to injure a player will experience it yourself,” he urged.

he further elaborated on the concept of “karma” in sports, a sentiment familiar to many american sports fans who have witnessed the consequences of dirty play. “In football, there is also a real karma. You always think, you always act to injure other players. Well, it might not be long before you experience it,” Nusi warned.

The PSSI official implored players to reconsider their actions, stating, “Therefore, we hope that you will not be players who think or do things that are unsportsmanlike on the field. Appreciate lives, respect your friends with fellow games.”

The disciplinary commission is expected to take firm action regarding the incident. Nusi also extended his gratitude to the medical team for their swift response.

“Hopefully, this will serve as a lesson for all matches and for the match committee to be alert in taking action, especially if such an incident occurs,” Nusi concluded. “Once again, PSSI is very disappointed and concerned about this, and in the future, there will be no more things like this.”

This incident raises critical questions about player safety and the enforcement of fair play in Indonesian football. For U.S.sports enthusiasts, it echoes concerns about player safety in sports like American football and hockey, where the line between aggressive play and dangerous fouls is constantly debated.

Further Examination:

* Impact of Fouls on Player Well-being: This incident highlights the need for a deeper examination of the long-term physical and psychological effects of aggressive fouls on athletes.
* Referee Training and Intervention: How can referee training be enhanced to better identify and penalize dangerous play before it escalates?
* Player Education Programs: What kind of educational initiatives can be implemented to instill a stronger sense of sportsmanship from youth leagues upwards?
* Comparison with International Standards: How do the disciplinary measures and player safety protocols in Indonesian football compare to those in major international leagues, notably in the U.S.?

The PSSI’s strong stance is a positive step, but the true measure of its commitment will be in the consistent request of fair play and the proactive measures taken to prevent such incidents from marring the beautiful game in the future.
