The president of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Pedro Proença, guaranteed this Saturday that “there is no club mapping” in the organization’s governing bodies, which ensures the suitability of “competent and capable people”.
“There is no club mapping. Let’s see if we understand each other: when the electoral process existed, everyone knows, the club tendencies — I will say possibly religious or political — of its candidates are public knowledge, it is easy to know these numbers. The FPF has highly competent people in its senior ranks, and that is what was chosen for this candidacy: competent people capable of organizing, for example, these recognized events worldwide”, highlighted the person responsible for the FPF, in the mixed zone, before entering the Arena Portugal for the last day of the Portugal Football Summit.
Before starring in the last intervention of the event held in Cidade do Futebol and which ends this Saturday, Pedro Proença uncompromisingly defended the suitability of the elements that make up the FPF’s governing bodies.
“There is a new page at the FPF regarding compliance rules, good practices. Today people are independent, I have been in football for almost 30 years, I have gone through very delicate, very difficult areas, I have never hidden what my options were, but above all this is a president who wants competence, rigor, for Portugal to be world champions in the next World Cup, we are doing everything to make that happen”, he assured.
Asked about Frederico Varandas’ statements, who referred to a “mapping” that indicates a predominance of Benfica supporters in the FPF’s governing bodies, Proença identifies his “responsibility to have this positive judiciary”, clarifying that “he does not meddle in these movements and is attentive”, warning that “when it is time to act, he will act with certainty”.
“We have a very important game today (Saturday) and what I am pleased to note at this moment, as president of the Federation, is the following: today, in the FPF, we have competence, independent people who want to govern this organization according to these principles that I will not give up”, he concluded.
The Portugal Football Summit, organized by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), began on Wednesday and runs until Saturday at Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras, with the aim of discussing the future of sport at national and global level.
