Team Nigeria has clinched the top spot at the 2025 Africa Para Badminton Championships, showcasing a dominant performance with a total of 36 medals. The extraordinary haul includes 10 gold,13 silver,and 13 bronze medals,capping off the tournament held in Umuahia,Abia.

Following closely behind, the National Olympic Committee of Kenya secured second place with 11 medals, comprising four gold, two silver, and five bronze. egypt rounded out the top three, earning eight medals, including three gold, one silver, and four bronze.

The Republic of Benin finished fourth with a respectable five medals (one gold, two silver, two bronze), while Congo Democratic took fifth place with three medals (one gold, two bronze).

Tunisia landed in sixth position with two medals (one silver, one bronze), and Cameroon secured seventh place with six bronze medals. zimbabwe,Burkina Faso,and Rwanda each earned two bronze medals to complete the top ten,with Mauritius adding one bronze medal to the final standings.

Out of the 12 participating nations, Mozambique was the only country that did not secure any medals in the 19 events contested. The championship, which began on October 7, also saw notable performances from athletes like Evila, Chukwu, and Mathan Gomanand Bello Tokur Tokur, who where recognized as medalists.

This event follows closely on the heels of the First Abia Para Badminton International, held from September 30 to October 5 at the same venue. During that competition, Nigerian stars bolaji, Nnanna, and Nathan had already captured gold medals in their respective categories, signaling a strong showing from the home team.

In his closing remarks,Abia State Governor Alex Otti,represented by Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development Nwaobilor Ananaba,lauded the event as a testament to resilience and unity. We have learned,improved,and been inspired, Otti stated,adding that Abia is eager to host the championships again,promising an even more exceptional experience.
