It’s already time for the final stage of the NIBC Tour of Holland. Christophe Laporte is firmly in the lead after the stage over the VAM mountain, but a lot can still happen around Arnhem. Although the gravel strip has been removed from the circuit. CyclingFlits looks ahead!
Course
The last stage in the Tour of Holland is also quite a hilly one. In and around Arnhem the organization had drawn up a circuit of 15.5 kilometers, which had to be completed ten times. But after a final inspection of the course, it was decided to adjust the route. Due to the diversion, the circuit is still 13.65 kilometers. “It has therefore been decided to add an extra lap, making the stage a total of 147.95 km.”
After the unofficial start at the market in Arnhem, the peloton enters the circuit neutralized for the first 2.2 kilometers. On the circuit, which starts on the Zijpendaalseweg, the riders first ride in a northeasterly direction to Schaarsbergen, after which they drive back to Arnhem and the finish street via Alteveer and the Apeldoornseweg.
The focus of the competition, even without the gravel strips, is still on the Zijpendaalseweg (1.4 kilometers at 3.5%). The route takes you past the Sonsbeek Park and the Open Air Museum, so we can expect beautiful images along the way.

Favorites
Christophe Laporte is in very good shape in the Tour of Holland rankings. If he is spared bad luck, his lead of 37 seconds should be enough. After all, the Frenchman is in excellent form. Although he did not win on the VAM mountain, he did ride a fantastic race. The same went for Lukas KubisLaporte’s closest opponent in the rankings. With his sharp sprint, the Slovakian from Unibet Tietema Rockets is also a dangerous customer for the day’s victory in Arnhem.

Visma | Lease a Bike not only has Laporte, but also… Olav Kooy. It Cheetah from Numansdorp was in good shape on Saturday and will undoubtedly have his own chance on Sunday, when Laporte is certain of the overall victory. He strikes one more time for Visma | Lease a Bike? In case it comes to a sprint, we should definitely include the names of Tim Merlier, Tobias Lund Andresen in Danny van Poppel note. The latter was still the best of the chasing group on the VAM mountain. Then you’re fine.
Normally Arnaud De Lie would also be able to go far on such a classic course, but the Bull of Lescheret seems to need some breathing space after a particularly successful autumn. Bee Jakob Söderqvist there’s more in the tank. The Swede from Lidl-Trek fell short in the VAM mountain stage, but is still third. Around Arnhem, where the slopes are slightly less steep, he can perhaps use his pure power a little better. Lidl-Trek has more irons in the fire with Daan Hoole and the fast Tim Torn Teutenberg.

From a Dutch perspective, it is also important to pay attention to Cees Bol, Pepijn Reinderink, Huub Artz, Mike Teunissen, Nils Eekhoff in Frits Biesterbosthe number two of the Gravel World Championships. Other Dutch Conti riders who deserve a mention are Rick Ottema, Tim Marsman, Martijn Rasenberg and of course stage winner Timo de Jong. There are also some dangerous Frenchmen, such as Sandy Dujardin and Anthony Turgis.
Weather and TV
The riders are lucky. After the weekend the weather will become more changeable in the Netherlands, but on Sunday it will remain dry and the sun will shine regularly. The mercury rises to about 14 degrees Celsius. The wind (3 Beaufort) comes from the south-southeast.
