Napoli Fans: Eindhoven Arrests & Champions League Riots

The approximately 180 Napoli fans stopped tonight by the local police after they had violated the security zone established by the mayor of the Dutch city in view of tonight’s Champions League match against PSV have all been expelled from Eindhoven. According to what we learn from the fans themselves, all the tickets of the stopped supporters have been cancelled. Furthermore, the documents relating to what happened were sent by the Dutch police forces to the Naples Police Headquarters, so that the issuing of any daspo can be assessed.

What happened

Regarding the arrest, the local police declared that no real disturbances or fights occurred: according to a spokesperson, the authorities wanted to prevent this with the arrests.

This was reported by the local news agency ANP, adding that there were no reports of any clashes with PSV fans. Dutch police described Napoli fans as a “large group” with a “certain atmosphere”: the officers asked the fans to leave the city centre, but their requests were allegedly ignored. The fans were then arrested for violating the municipal regulation regarding gatherings and were taken by bus to the Mathildelaan police station, where they will be questioned. Some people stopped did not have tickets for tonight’s Champions League match between PSV and Napoli. Eindhoven mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem had previously set up a high-risk safety zone ahead of the match. This allows the police to carry out preventive searches in the center and other places in the city.
