Mexican Archery continues to establish itself as one of the most successful disciplines in the country. In the Archery World Cup held in Nanjing, China, Mexicans Mariana Bernal and Maya Becerra starred in a historic final, in which Bernal won the gold medal after winning a dramatic “golden arrow” definition.
After five sets of competition, both archers finished tied 147-147, so the tiebreaker defined the title in favor of Bernal, who burst into tears when she became champion. Becerra, champion of the Gwangju 2024 World Cup, won silver, while bronze went to Jyothi Surekha Vennam, from India, who beat the British Ella Gibson.
The result reaffirms the great moment of national archery, which in recent years has delivered four Olympic medals: two in London 2012 (silver and bronze), one in Tokyo 2020 (bronze) and one more in Paris 2024 (bronze).
Last September, the team made up of Maya Becerra, Mariana Bernal and Adriana Castillo made history by beating the United States 236-231 in the team final of the Gwangju World Cup, achieving the first gold for Mexico in an international championship of this type.
With these results, the country continues to celebrate the precision and perseverance of its archers, who have placed Mexican archery among the world powers of the discipline.
We will continue to inform.
