Manchester City is set to secure the future of exciting winger Sávio Moreira de Oliveira, widely known as Savinho, with a contract extension. Italian transfer guru Nicolò Schira broke the news, highlighting the young Brazilian’s remarkable rise as his less prosperous stint with PSV three years ago.
It’s hard to imagine that just three years ago,Savinho was plying his trade in the Dutch second division for Jong PSV. Back then, a rapid ascent to the pinnacle of European football likely seemed a distant dream. Signed by the City football Group for French club Troyes, his initial loan spell at PSV Eindhoven proved to be a tough learning curve, failing to establish himself as a regular starter.
Following that challenging year in the Netherlands, Savinho made a pivotal move to Girona. It was there that his talent truly began to shine, contributing an remarkable nine goals and ten assists in 37 La Liga appearances. This breakout season caught the eye of Pep Guardiola, leading to his immediate transfer to Manchester City, where he has since become a regular fixture in the starting lineup.
Despite notable interest this summer from Tottenham Hotspur, City made it clear that Savinho was not for sale. The club is now focused on finalizing a new deal that would reportedly keep the former PSV prospect at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2031, a testament to his growing importance to the team.
