Libra tries to overthrow injunction obtained by Flamengo last week
The ‘war’ between Flamengo and Libra is far from the end. After the club got an injunction against the group, there was now ‘countergolpe’. The League appealed in the court of Rio de Janeiro to try to overthrow the blockade obtained by the red-black regarding the part of the TV payments of the Brasileirão.
The argument used by Libra is not new: it claims that former Flamengo President Rodolfo Landim approved the distribution of payment. However, Mengão’s agent since January, Luiz Eduardo Baptista, the BAP, revised the agreement and understands that the red-black will lose money if the proposal advances.
Libra also understands that the attitude of the current board of Flamengo is a political action due to disagreements with Landim management. The information of the ‘countergolpe’ given to the red-black was released by journalist Rodrigo Mattos, from UOL.
What does Flamengo say about the situation?
In a note sent to the press on Wednesday (01), Flamengo elaborated a material of ‘facts and fakes’ about the controversial theme involving the Libra and the division of the television audience payment. Check out some of the points below.
“It is false that any definition of audience percentages has been agreed. Statute is silent at this point. Therefore, the General Assembly of the Libra had to deliberate on the gap in the Statute. There was no conclusion. Flamengo voted against the opinion of the other clubs. Even so, Globo paid the installments, according to the scenario proposed by the Libra, which is illegal, as it hurts the unanimity of the statute”.
“It is false that Flamengo Nega has signed a contract and wants to reverse his conditions, changing the rule of the game. The convening of the Libra General Assembly in May 2025 is clear: it calls for the vote and approval of scenarios for the hearing in the sale of transmission rights”.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Flamengo’s current board tried to dialogue for contract adjustments. The point that bothers Bap is the division of the percentage of television rights related to the audience. The leader finds it unfair, for example, that Bragantino wins the same quota as Mengão, and the red-black takes much more audience.
Then Flamengo went to court and managed to block the transfer to the other clubs in the Libra. Revolted, clubs such as Palmeiras, Sao Paulo, Atletico-MG, Santos and Vitória issued official notes by detonating the stance of Luiz Eduardo Baptista.
