On the 13th, the first day of the tournament, four Japanese players will appear in the first round of the singles main tournament. Both players will play their matches on center court.

Particularly noteworthy is the match between No. 1 seed Naomi Osaka and Yasso Sonobe, ranked 266th in the world, who will be competing as a wild card (recommended by the organizer).

Osaka, 27 years old and ranked 16th in the world, will be participating in the tournament for the fifth time and the first time in eight years. His best results were the top 16 in 2014 and 2016.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old Sonobe achieved the feat of becoming the second Japanese woman in 56 years to win a Grand Slam junior title at the Australian Open (Australia/Melbourne, Hard, Grand Slam) Junior in January of this year. After becoming number one in the junior world ranking in May of this year, he announced his intention to turn professional on the 8th of this month, and will make his professional debut at this tournament.
