Jagdalpur Lawn Tennis Association Crowns Champions in Thrilling Divisional Tournament
The Indira Priyadarshini Stadium in Jagdalpur recently buzzed with the energy of young athletes and seasoned competitors as the Jagdalpur Lawn Tennis Association hosted its divisional lawn tennis competition. The tournament,which concluded on Friday,showcased a wide range of talent across various age groups and categories,from budding Under-10 players to seasoned veterans.
In the Under-10 singles, a spirited match saw Hetvik Maurya emerge victorious over Atharva Shukla with a score of 5-3. The Under-12 girls’ singles title was claimed by Adrika Sharma, who demonstrated impressive skill in defeating Anadita shukla 8-2. The doubles pairing of Anadita Shukla and Adrika Sharma also proved formidable, securing the girls’ doubles title against Nandika Rajput and Siddhi Mishra.
The Under-12 boys’ division witnessed a close contest, with Apoorva Mishra clinching the singles championship 8-6 against Aarav Kushwaha.The doubles crown in this category went to the duo of Prakhar Singh and Aarav. In the Under-17 Girls’ singles, Sanjana triumphed over Moksha Siriyala 8-2. The Under-17 Girls’ doubles saw Sanjana and Tashneet defeat Khushpreet and Isha. The Under-17 boys’ singles match was a highlight, with Austin Joyal besting Atharva Mishra 8-3 to capture the cup. The doubles final in the same category was a hard-fought battle, with the pair of austin and Ann Rohit ultimately defeating Atharva Mishra and Apoorva Mishra.
The Men’s veterans category also provided exciting matchups. Hardeep singh secured the singles title by defeating Thomas Philip 9-6.In the Veterans doubles, the formidable pair of Hardeep Singh and Manoj Patel dominated, defeating Thomas Philip and Dr. KL Azad with a decisive 9-0 victory. The Men’s Open singles final was a keenly contested affair, with Mayank Patharia emerging as the champion after defeating Kunal Chalisgaonkar 8-5.The Men’s Open doubles title was won by the pair of Thomas Philip and Jogendrapal Singh, who defeated Hardeep Singh and Kunal Chalisgaonkar 8-3.
Mayor Sanjay Pandey graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest, taking the prospect to honor the winners and runners-up for their outstanding performances. Association Secretary Thomas Philip expressed his optimism about the growing popularity of tennis in Jagdalpur, noting the significant participation of young boys and girls. With 67 players from the division competing, the event underscored the burgeoning talent pool. Looking ahead, the Jagdalpur Lawn Tennis Association is already making preparations to elevate the competition to the state level starting next year, a move that promises to further inspire and develop tennis talent in the region.
