India Shines at Badminton Asia U17 & U15 Championships: A Historic Gold Rush!
Chengdu, China – The Indian contingent has etched its name in the history books, delivering its most dominant performance ever at the badminton Asia U17 & U15 Championships 2025. On a thrilling Sunday, Shaina Manimuthu (U15) and Diksha Sudhakar (U17) clinched coveted gold medals, leading India to a remarkable haul of two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.
In a display of sheer grit and skill, Shaina Manimuthu powered her way to the U15 girls’ singles title, overcoming JapanS Chiharu Tomita with a hard-fought 21-14, 22-20 victory. The match, lasting 44 minutes, saw Shaina control the first game and then expertly navigate a tense second game to secure the championship.This win makes Shaina the fourth Indian girl to claim the U15 crown, showcasing the growing depth of talent in Indian junior badminton.
The U17 girls’ singles final was an all-Indian affair, a testament to the nation’s burgeoning prowess. Diksha Sudhakar emerged victorious, defeating her compatriot Lakshya Rajesh 21-16, 21-9. Diksha’s triumph is particularly monumental as she becomes the first Indian singles player to ever win a U17 title at the Junior Asian Championships. The medal tally was further bolstered by strong performances on Saturday. jagsher Singh Khanggura secured a bronze medal in the boys’ singles, and the dynamic mixed doubles pair of Jangjeet Singh Kajla and Jananika Ramesh also earned a bronze.
In the mixed doubles semi-finals, Kajla and Ramesh battled valiantly but were ultimately defeated by the Chinese Taipei pair of I An Chang and Yo Han Wang, with a score of 17-21, 21-18, 21-16. Similarly, jagsher Singh Khangurra put up a strong fight in the boys’ singles semi-final but fell to China’s Hong Tian Yue, 21-11, 21-16.
