Glatzel Seat: Polzin’s Explanation

Surprise at Hamburger SV: Robert Glatzel wasn’t even in the squad for the 0-1 loss against VfL Wolfsburg. Coach Merlin Polzin justified the decision after the game with sporting considerations – not with health problems.

“He is in top shape, it was a sporting decision,” Polzin made clear at the press conference. The attacker, who has only been used as a joker this season and is behind Ransford Königsdörffer and Yussuf Poulsen in the internal ranking, had to leave for performance reasons.

Polzin referred to the broad squad and the need to be prepared for different game situations: “With the exception of Omari, we have a very large squad and can use this to determine the matchday squad. We have to be prepared for any scenario and can’t just take offensive players with us.”

At the same time, the coach emphasized the striker’s professional approach to his situation: “It was of course a humanly difficult decision. But when I see how Bobby tries to be there for the team every day, I like that. He knows that he still has to work on things – and that’s what he’s doing. He continues to be an important part of our team.”
