Flats Service secured a hard-fought away victory against Wegreenit Urania Milano at the PalaFacchetti in treviglio.Despite a depleted roster due to injuries, Bologna showcased remarkable resilience, with ten players contributing to the scoresheet and eight making it onto the court against a full-strength milan squad.
From the outset, Bologna established dominance.After conceding the opening basket, they unleashed a blistering 12-0 run in just four minutes, setting the tone for the game.This early surge propelled them to a commanding 18-32 lead by the end of the first quarter and a significant 39-55 advantage at halftime. The first half was a masterclass in offensive efficiency for Bologna, who capitalized on second-chance opportunities with 6 offensive rebounds. Their ball movement was extraordinary, with Lee Moore dishing out 6 assists, supported by della Rosa and Moretti with 4 each, and Fantinelli with 3. Their shooting percentages were equally remarkable, hitting 14 of 16 two-point attempts and 7 of 17 from beyond the arc. Sorokas and Sarto were already in double figures by halftime,with 11 and 10 points respectively.
On the other side, Urania’s kevion Taylor was a radiant spot, also reaching double figures with 15 points, while Alessandro Gentile contributed 8 points and 6 assists, though he also committed 4 turnovers.
The third quarter saw Milan attempt a comeback. After falling behind by as much as 21 points (41-62 with 8:37 remaining),Gentile and Taylor,who would finish with 31 points each,spearheaded a rally. By the end of the third period, urania had narrowed the deficit to 68-79 in favor of Fortitudo.
The final quarter was a nail-biter. Gentile’s early basket brought Milan within ten points. Despite two crucial three-pointers from Moore to keep urania at bay, Gentile proved instrumental in the closing minutes. He repeatedly found the tying basket and, with two clutch free throws, gave Wegreenit the lead in the final minute – their first since the opening moments of the game. However,Lee Moore,who finished with an outstanding 32 points,calmly sank two free throws to level the score at the end of regulation,forcing overtime.
The first overtime period was a tense, back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading baskets as fatigue set in. The score remained tied at 99 points after the initial five minutes of extra time. During this period, Alvise Sarto fouled out, a meaningful blow for Bologna.
In the second overtime, Moretti’s two free throws pushed Fortitudo past the 100-point mark. Taylor responded for Milan, but ultimately, Fortitudo’s defensive resolve and composure at the free-throw line, spearheaded by Moore, proved decisive. This victory allows Flats Service to return to Bologna with a crucial win, keeping them firmly in the top tier of the standings with 6 points.
