Clinic contents and results
The clinic was held on the 11th in Hualien City for 52 elementary school students to high school students in Hualien City, and on the 12th in Taipei City for 29 elementary school students. Although the participating players were initially confused by the training content, they gradually deepened their understanding and were able to call out support numbers and play by recognizing and making decisions on their own. Through the training, they were able to pass the ball smoothly, and local soccer officials commented that the players’ decision-making and thinking abilities had clearly improved.
In addition, Mr. Tokikuni participated in the entire schedule of this clinic, and Taichung FUTURO’s Sakurauchi (affiliated with FC Imabari in 2023) participated in the clinic in Taipei, giving the players an opportunity to play with former Taiwanese national team players and professional players, and also an opportunity to feel closer to their future goals.
Comment from Tsukasa Tokikuni
Welcoming President Takeshi Okada, one of Japan’s greatest soccer players, to Taiwan was a moment in history that opened a new door for us in Taiwan’s soccer world. Chairman Okada led Japan to its first ever World Cup appearance, and since then he has continued to rewrite history no matter which team he leads, including the Japan National Team, Yokohama F. Marinos, and Consadole Sapporo. Behind this is the “Okada Method,” which fosters athletes’ “ability to think and act independently.” This time, through teaching in Taiwan, I was able to vividly feel that power. In just 90 minutes, both in Hualien and Taipei, I witnessed the children’s eyes begin to light up, think for themselves, work together with their peers, connect passes one after another, and grow. At that moment, I was convinced of the power of soccer to change people and the hope that learning can change a country. If we can continue to learn this “Okada Method,” the day when the Taiwanese national team will be on stage at the World Cup or the Olympics will not be just a pipe dream.
This visit to Taiwan began with my personal thoughts. However, there are limits to the power of an individual. From now on, we would like to encourage all Taiwanese companies and Japanese companies who care about Taiwan to expand the circle of this spirit together. We sincerely ask for your warm support so that Taiwan can continue to learn from the Okada Method and together create an environment where future generations can pursue their dreams.
Future outlook
FC Imabari will continue to actively interact with overseas soccer coaches and players and promote the international spread of the “Okada Method.” Based on the connections built during this visit to Taiwan, we aim to build a long-term partnership and contribute to the promotion of soccer in Asia.
