Euro Table Tennis: Belgium’s Mixed Start – Men Win, Women Lose

In a thrilling table tennis showdown, the Belgian men’s team is set to clash with Poland, currently holding third place in Group H, on Monday. The Polish team will then face Finland on tuesday.

The Belgian women’s team experienced a tough outing against Portugal. Lilou Massart fell in three sets to Yu Fu (11-7, 11-5, 11-5), adn Margo Degraef also lost in straight sets to Shao Jieni (11-2, 11-5, 11-4). While Julie Vanhauwaert secured a victory against Matilde Pinto (10-12, 11-2, 11-9, 11-7) to bring Belgium back into contention, Massart was ultimately defeated again in three sets by Shao (11-5, 11-4, 15-13).

Looking ahead, Portugal is scheduled to compete against Czechia, the third-ranked team in Group D, on Monday. Belgium’s women’s team will also face Czechia on Tuesday.

The tournament in Zadar features a robust field of 24 nations for both the men’s and women’s competitions.These teams are organized into eight groups, with three countries per group. Advancement to the round of 16 is steadfast by group standings, with the top two teams from each group qualifying. Each match is a best-of-five singles contest, and the first team to secure three match wins emerges victorious.
