Etcheverry & Comesaña: Paris Masters 1000 Semifinal Preview

Tomás Etcheverry and Francisco Comesaña were one match away from qualifying for the main draw of the Paris Masters 1000 thanks to the victories they achieved this Saturday.

Etcheverry, fourth seed in qualifying, added a solid 6-2, 6-4 victory over the Spanish Pedro Martínez and will now have the chance to get his ticket for the last Masters 1000 of the season against the Dutch Jesper De Jong, who needed three sets to beat the Polish Kamil Majchrzak. It will be the fourth meeting between the two, in a history that the player from La Plata wins 2-1, including the 6-4 and 6-4 victory he achieved in the Davis Cup series last September.

Meanwhile, Comesaña added a good victory by defeating Frenchman Luca van Assche 7-5, 6-1 and will seek his place in the tournament against Belgian David Goffin, in the third meeting between them in the last three weeks. In the first round in Brussels, the victory belonged to the Mar del Plata player 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. But last week, in the Basel qualifying, the victory went to the former top ten 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).

If they win, Etcheverry and Comesaña will join Sebastián Báez, Camilo Ugo Carabelli and Francisco Cerúndolo in the main draw. Báez will debut against the British Cameron Norrie, while Ugo Carabelli and Cerúndolo will do so against a player from qualifying.
