Eschweiler. At the over-30 judo championships, Martin Fink from the 1st Budo Club Eschweiler became West German champion in his age and weight class. Club colleague Dieter Degenhart came second in his category. The club’s young judoka fought at the tournament in Herzogenrath: Alexander Zubiashvili (2nd place), Thilo Burghof, Markus Muscan (both 3rd) and Paul Kolvenbach (5th).
The group Dark Explosion from Eschweiler took part in the German Flag Waving Championships. In the individual, Anna Mertens became German champion for the first time in the open class and age group B women and Max Visser became German runner-up in the youth category. Third places were achieved in the group disciplines of synchronized swinging, acrobatics and show.
FV Eschweiler is second in the table, won six of the first seven games of the season and, with Yanik Wiese (9 goals), has the top scorer in the football district league B. District league newcomer Falke Bergrath is in a strong fourth place after four wins from the last five games. The rankings in the A-League: FC Eschweiler 3rd place, SC Berger Preuß 11th, SV St. Jöris 12th.
The ESG handball players lost an association league thriller against BTB Aachen II 28:29. Felix Graaf (7 goals) was the best thrower for ESG, which won one of the first four games. The opponents started similarly after the autumn break: Black-Rot Aachen (November 8th, away) and TV Birkesdorf II (November 15th, 7:30 p.m., Eichendorffhalle). The ESG women are currently leaders in the regional league.
Bowler Fabian Kunz set a new track record in the Old Town Hall of Dürwiß. The 894 wood from 120 throws contributed to the ESV men’s home win against Heiligenhaus. The ESV is third in the Rhineland League and has the league’s most accurate player in Kunz. The black and yellow women missed out on reaching the top of the 2nd league with a defeat against Wuppertal.
Amely Steiner won her second medal at a world taekwondo tournament at the Swiss Open. In the strong field of junior women up to 55 kilograms, the TSG Eschweiler fighter initially beat her competitors from Croatia and Switzerland. After a defeat against Austria, she finished third. It continues next weekend in Saarland.
