Has Kevin De Bruyne started a race against time in preparation for the World Cup? Lieven Maesschalk sees no reason to panic after his injury against Inter Milan.
Wind of panic both in Naples and in Belgium since this Saturday: Kevin De Bruyne was injured against Inter Milan. Coming out in tears, the playmaker seemed to fear the worst, but according to the famous physiotherapist Lieven Maesschalk, we should not worry too much.
Maesschalk, the Red Devils’ official physiotherapist for many years and confidant of some of them, spoke with KDB following his injury. The scanner will only be carried out this Monday, but in the columns of Het Laatste Nieuws, he asks to keep calm.
“It’s true that at the time of his thigh injury it was serious and required an operation. But that doesn’t mean that this new injury is located in the same place,” says Lieven Maesschalk.
De Bruyne in top form for the World Cup?
“We are seeing more and more ligament problems in football. It is an explosive sport, with a lot of intensity, and fatigue plays a role. But Kevin is a professional, he does his best to prevent these injuries,” he assures. “Without a scan, it’s hard to tell what’s going on, but Kevin is a professional.”
Maesschalk therefore calls for patience. “I have full confidence in Kevin, he will come back. The World Cup is still far away. In the end, what matters is that he is fit for the important moments. He is a winner and a perfectionist.”
