The Latvian duo Gustavs Auziņš/Kristiāns Fokerots won gold medals at the World U-21 Beach Volleyball Championship in Mexico on Sunday.
Auziņš and Fokerots, who were seeded third in the tournament, defeated the second duet of the tournament, Shimons Bett/Artem Bessarab from Poland, 2-0 (21:19, 21:19) in the final.

Three years ago Fokerots/Auziņš became world champions in the U-19 age group.

Earlier on Sunday, in the semi-final game, the Latvians beat the first-ranked home team Injes Lares and Carlos Herrera with a score of 2-0 (21:17, 21:19).
For women, Liva Eber/Daniela Konstantinova, after losing in the quarter-finals, ended the championship race in Puebla in joint fifth place.
Deneva Šauberga/Rēzija Puškundze and Mārcis Bērziņš/Ernests Gūtmanis did not enter the main tournament, failing to overcome the third and second round of qualification, respectively. Shauberga/Puškundze finished the tournament in joint 33rd place, while Bērziņš/Gūtmanis took joint 37th place.
