Nine players from the club travel to Tenerife to participate in the regional competition
After returning last Sunday from the Catalunya TOP TTR Blanes, the Auria Badminton Club competition team has focused this week on preparing for its participation in the Absolute Canary Islands Championship, a competition that takes place on the island of Tenerife. The best players of the archipelago will be at the event organized by the CB Universitario and the Canarian Badminton Federation, and which will be a qualifier for the Spanish Absolute Autonomous National Team Championship.
The Canary Islands Sports Complex hosts the Canary Islands Absolute Badminton Championship, in which a total of 129 players participate. The Auria Báminton Club will have a competition group of nine players, the expedition being made up of Adrián Carabali, Ariadna Moreno, Zhi Tao Li, Alejandro Rijo, Martín Barbado, Laura Solis, Oliver Gausmann, Zeneida Ortiz and Miguel Barbado. In addition, Miguel Barbado acts as a coach during the weekend and the sports psychologist Sofía Correa accompanies the expedition.
The Absolute Canary Islands Championship is a qualifier for the Absolute Spanish Championship for Autonomous National Teams, and will be held from December 12 to 14 in the town of Rinconada, in Seville. The champion and runner-up of the men’s and women’s individual modality of the Absolute A category will be part of the Canary Islands team, and two players will be selected by the technical staff of the Canary Islands Badminton Federation.
The Auria Badminton Club players compete in the men’s and women’s individual category, and in the group stage they will try to add the greatest number of victories to access the final draw. Adrián Carabali and Oliver Gausmann compete in the men’s doubles and Ariadna Moreno and Zhi Tao Li compete in the mixed doubles. Martín Barbado plays mixed doubles with Laura Solis and men’s doubles with his brother Miguel Barbado.
Alejandro Rijo will partner in the men’s doubles with Luis Miguel Alemán, a player from CB Gran-K Top Skin, and Laura Solis will play in the women’s doubles with Lucía Socas, a player from CD Los Hinojeros Granadilla. And Zeneida Ortiz will also compete in the mixed doubles of the competition with Víctor Quesada, a member of Gran-K Top Skin.
The Auria Badminton Club expedition traveled to the island of Tenerife this Friday afternoon, and during the nights of Friday and Saturday they will stay at the Teneguia Apartments in Puerto de la Cruz. After competing in the Absolute Canary Islands Championship, the team will return to Lanzarote on Sunday afternoon.
