Álvarez: Rising Star at Fenerbahçe – Performance Update

The Mexican Edson Álvarez actively participated for 64 minutes in his team Fenerbahce’s 2-0 victory over Karagümruk in which the Spanish Marco Asensió also shined.

After arriving in the Turkish league in the summer from West Ham United, Mexican Edson Álvarez has managed to win over Fenerbahce fans who increasingly value what he does in the midfield.

On this occasion, he had 92 percent accurate passes, shot once on goal, recovered the ball five times for his team and won half of the personal duels he had.

Together, Fenerbahce was able to resolve a home match in which they were determinedly offensive from the whistle and which paid off in winning to climb to third place in the Turkish League behind Galatasaray and Trabzonspor. At minute 32 they scored a penalty through Anderson Talisca so that their strategy could advance more easily.

10 minutes later, Marco Asensio scored a great goal to put the stadium into a frenzy in favor of Fenerbahce. However, in the second half, they slowed down a bit and Karagümrük broke free to set the nerves on edge with a goal in the 59th minute from Sergio de Luiz.

To accommodate the chips on the field, Fenerbahce coach Domenico Tedesco decided to take out Edson Álvarez who was already physically empty to give him a rest and put Frederico Rodrigues in his place. The expulsion of player Jure Balkovec helped Fenerbahce reach the end of the match with the advantage.

Edson Álvarez understands better and better with his teammates and with Fenerbahce’s philosophy after coach José Mourinho was fired shortly after arriving at the club. In addition, having the rhythm of the game helps him to be focused with the Mexican National Team that will play in November against Paraguay.
